Close game for Glenwood

Glenwood's Green Machine gave their all in a game against Affies, narrowly losing 20-22.

GLENWOOD played host to the Witbulle from Pretoria, Affies, at the weekend.

The game had all the makings of an epic battle with both teams leaving nothing to chance out on the field.

Affies dominated the early exchanges and went into the half with a 16-3 lead. Glenwood’s only points came through a Jerome Bossr penalty early in the half.

The second half saw the Glenwood team really standing-up as they began to match their opposition’s physicality and played an exciting brand of rugby.

With a mountain to climb at 19-3 down early in the second half it seemed that Glenwood were in for a long afternoon. Showing a huge amount of character and resolve, the home team fought back and mustered up every bit of energy they had to produce some outstanding rugby.

Their hard work was rewarded through two tries, one by Jerome Bossr and a second from Marco Palvie, both of which were converted.

With the Affie’s team under serious pressure, it was a late penalty awarded to the home team that saw Glenwood edge into the lead. With a minute and a half left on the clock Bossr calmly slotted a long range kick to give his team a 20-19 lead.

Unfortunately, this was not going to be enough as the final play of the game resulted in Affie’s being awarded a penalty from the kick off which they converted and won 22-20 with no time left on the clock.

Credit must be given to the manner in which the Glenwood side played in the second half as they showed a real sense of purpose and determination resulting in a performance that the team and school can be very proud of.
