Biggest sports and recreation show to hit Durbs

Sports, health and wellness fans are in for a treat when KZN's largest sport and wellness show launches at the Greyville Racecourse in October.

DURBAN'S sports fanatics and thrill seekers can expect KwaZulu-Natal’s largest new sport show, Sportex at the Greyville Race Course from 16 to 18 October this year.

Sportex is dubbed the most comprehensive sporting exhibition to be staged in the province. The show has been conceptualised by the Durban Events Company and the Expo Factory working together with the Greyville Convention Centre and the eLan Property Group.

“It is a one stop premier sport and outdoor event where sports, health, fitness and outdoor enthusiasts will get the opportunity to meet manufacturers, retailers, professional athletes, sports clubs and sports bodies, non-profit organisations, policy makers, government and provincial departments, fitness instructors, coaches and more,” explained Gavin Larkin, the shows managing director from the Expo Factory.

Larkin said thousands of attendees will have the opportunity to learn, experience, demonstrate and buy products from exhibitors and sponsors guaranteed to enhance their personal sport experience.

Sportex will have something for everyone including numerous sporting activities throughout the weekend which include go carts, motor bike displays, driftiing, water sports displays, adventure stunts arena, the Liverpool Football Academy player assessemnt programme, the Sharks academy coaching, the Dolphins cricket coaching, MMA, all martial arts disciplines displays, a run fit event, a team time trial cycling event, an opportunity to win thousands in a golf hole in one event, an archery event and a fully fledged Oktoberfest with a concert on the Saturday evening.

The event is in line with government’s efforts to promote healthy lifestyles, increased participation in sport and boosting physical activities amongst South Africans. In addition the exhibition provides a platform to promote and showcase sports tourism and the sports industry.

“We are very excited to bring this newly conceputlised show to Durban as it not only going to be a great weekend out for the family but also there will be a significant amount of sports development programmes that will be rolled out as well as a number of event firsts for Durban such as the R500 000 Golf shoot out and the cycling team time trials,” added Larkin.
