The Power Horse Beach Soccer African Trophy Durban 2015 hits South Beach.

THE Power Horse Beach Soccer African Trophy Durban will have Durban's Copacabana Beach in South Beach packed from 6 to 8 March with talent from eight of the top African national teams competing for glory.

South Africa, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal and Seychelles will take part in the knock-out tournament from 6 March.

The host city has always been a pivotal beach soccer destination, and with this event it again joins the Beach Soccer Worldwide circuit.

Joan Cusco, Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW) executive vice-president, highlighted the importance of the Power Horse Beach Soccer African Trophy Durban 2015, saying: “We are delighted to come back to one of our homes, Durban, host to several top-flight events in the last years. Durban comes back to the Beach Soccer Worldwide stage with a key event including the best teams of Africa, a continent naturally gifted for beach soccer. Events like this are truly valuable to foster the development of the sport. One of their countries will be achieving something important in the World Cup soon.”

All of the excitement and elite action starts with the host team, South Africa, as they have built an emblematic venue and have helped to successfully increase beach soccer reach in the nation, as well the African continent as a whole. International selections are always revved up for the trek to South Africa, and this year is no different, setting the stage for the best African teams to compete as well as eager newcomers, Seychelles.

As always, aside from the entertainment on the pitch, there’ll be plenty to keep the spectators’ thirst for fun sated. From hot local music acts and a bevy of sizzling cheerleaders, both locals and visitors can brace themselves for a festive atmosphere.

Moreover, to ensure long-term sustainability, BSWW will be donating two full beach soccer pitches to run activations year round. This will ensure that beach soccer is used as a platform to connect the community and to create a family-friendly, safe and fun atmosphere at the beach.

The fiesta and battle royale, mixed into one, marks a big year for beach soccer in Durban with the city poised to become the capital of the sport in the country.
