Glenwood waterpolo tops Kearsney

Glenwood doubled Kearsney's score in a waterpolo game at the weekend.

GLENWOOD's first waterpolo team beat Kearsney 10-5 in a clash at the weekend.

Kearsney started well with solid defence and good finishing, keeping the game even at two-all at the end of the first chukka.

The second and third chukkas were frustrating affairs for Kearsney, who created opportunities but failed to finish, and then having Glenwood score off the counter-attack.

With the score at 8-3 at the end of the third chukka it seemed the floodgates would open, but Kearsney consolidated their defence and fought back to 8-5.

With an extra man opportunity they hoped to put more pressure on Glenwood, but again failed to convert.

It took Glenwood two quarters of mediocre waterpolo to finally find their form against a talented Kearsney team. It was Slade du Randt’s counter-attack goal that ignited the fire in the boys from Glenwood.

A further two defensive lapses by Kearsney put some gloss on the final score of 10-5 to Glenwood.

Dylan Cronjé and Gabriel Stopford provided much of the momentum up front. Cronjé once again showed his dominance on attack, netting five times for Glenwood. On defence it was Shane Westman and Jarred Pereira who dominated the Kearsney set attack. For Kearsney, their goalkeeper Ryan Jackson had an outstanding match, making several brilliant saves.
