Quins defeated by ACC

Harlequins Cricket Club's first team was not strong enough to beat ACC in a challenge league match.

UMBILO Harlequins Cricket Club's first team was beaten by ACC in a scheduled 50-over stream one challenge league match at Hutchinson Park on Sunday, 15 February.

Quins batsmen performed well below par, with the exception of the in-form all-rounder Sean Edward, who top-scored with 16 runs, and number six batsman, Devan Dippenaar, who contributed 11 runs towards Quins' meagre total. The Quins batting line-up succumbed to the endeavours of ACC's bowling attack for a tally of 54 runs.

Quins right arm wrist spinner, Dieter Liebenberg, started off poorly in his initial two overs, conceding sixteen runs, but thereafter consolidated to capture the wickets of both opposition openers, ending his day with those two wickets for 18 runs in 30 deliveries – a real stand-out performance by Dieter.

ACC, however, surpassed Quins' total in 10.4 overs. ACC won by eight wickets.

Other team results: Quins sixths played Clares fouth team. Clares fouth team made 141 runs. Quins sixths made 142 runs and won by six wickets.

In the match between Quins U11s and Umlazi U11s, Quins made 122 runs. Umlazi passed the Quins total with four wickets down (Deen Fredericks made 42 runs, Gareth Govender made 16 runs, Cole Brady four overs, one maiden and one wicket for 17 runs).

Quins fifths played Lamontville's first team. Lamonville made 106 runs and Quins made 107 runs, and won by four wickets – Theo van Heerden 4/17 runs, JP Dreyer 2/15, JP Dreyer made 20 runs, Jarrod Murgatroyd made 31 runs and J Lubbe made 15 runs.

In the Quins fouths game against Simplex fifths, Simplex made 188 runs and beat Quins – David Storm made 4/5, David Muller made 23 runs, Ernest Kettle made 21 runs and Daryn Moffitt made 28 runs.

Coaching sessions for juniors will be on Thursday at 5pm and practice for seniors will be at 4.30pm on Friday.
