Sporting excellence recognised at KZN Sport Awards

KZN honours its local talented athletes and sports administration personalities at a awards evening at the ICC this Saturday.

PROLIFIC sportsmen and women and astute sports administrators will once again be honoured for their sporting achievements and diligent administration of their sporting codes respectively at the 2014 KwaZulu-Natal Sport Awards on Saturday, 4 October, at Durban’s ICC.

The awards, which are hosted under the auspices of KwaZulu-Natal Sport and Recreation in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Sports Confederation, will be hosted for the second consecutive year. They are aimed at recognising sporting idols and administrators who continue to instil passion for various codes among the fans both in Kwa-Zulu Natal and nationally. In addition, the accolade is also awarded on the basis of being good ambassadors of KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa both locally and on the international stage.

“The KwaZulu-Natal Sport Awards gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and award exceptional sporting performance and unwavering commitment to judicious administration. Our home-grown talent has done us proud over the past 16 months and this is our way of recognising the great contribution they have made in being exemplary ambassadors for the country,” says MEC for Sport and Recreation, Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha.

She says that being home to international stars such as gold medal-winning Olympian swimmer Chad le Clos and 2014 Comrade Marathon winner Bongumusa Mthembu, confirms KwaZulu-Natal as the breeding ground of globally competitive talent.
