Scenic route for Tough Man series

Get your entries in for the next Tough-Man Trail Series event in Hillcrest.

THE countdown for the second event of the 2014 Tough-Man Trail Series has begun.

After a very successful first event in July, the new routes for the August race just get better. The second event in the three part series takes place on 23 August, starting and finishing from Freedom Trail in Hillcrest (Plantations / M13 off ramp).

The Tough-Man Trail Series is not extremely difficult, but it gives each competitor an amazing taste of trail-running while enjoying South Africa's breathtaking scenery and wildlife.

Freedom Trails, which is situated right in the centre of Hillcrest, is the new home of the Tough-Man Trail Series. The venue is opposite Plantations and borders on the M13 highway providing easy access on and off the M13 highway. Freedom Trails also borders the Giba Gorge Conservancy which is home to a unique complement of rare and threatened ecosystems with an impressive list of animals and plants. The towering slopes, cliffs and gorges were once home to Stone Age people, evidence of which has been unearthed at the Umhlatuzana Rock Shelter.

The main events on Saturday 23 August include a eight and 16km trail run, which both start at 7am, but there is also a kiddies race which will consist of a 2km run around the finish area. The Kids Trail Run is a safe and secure and starts at 9.30am. There are some steep climbs and descents, but nothing too technical for the little people.

The final event in the three part series takes place on Saturday 27 September at Freedom Trails. There will be food and drinks available at the start and finish area and competitors are encouraged to dress up. Prizes for the best dresses will be given on the starting line.

To enter, go online to www.bactiventry.com and sign up the family. Registration for the events will take place at Freedom Trails on race day between 6am and 7am.

The first 100 people to register on Saturday will get a goodie bag.
