Join running stars at Super Mama Challenge

Grab your running shoes and get ready to run with the stars at the Super Mama Savages 10km and half marathon this Sunday.

Durban walkers and runners can join the running stars including this year’s Comrades winner in the Supa Mama Savages 21km Challenge in Durban on Sunday, 13 July at 7am.

All runners in the Super Mama Savages Challenge are running to raise funds for the KZN Childrens Hospital as R5 of each entry goes towards helping improve the life of the kids at the hospital.

Big name runners participating in the challenge are Bongmusa Mthembu, the current Comrades marathon winner and first local runner since 2005 to win the race. Mthembu has four gold medals from eight races and has placed seventh, third, second and now first in the Comrades Marathon. He is expected to breeze through the 10km race in under 50 minutes.

Prodigal Khumalo, a Durban rising star runner earned his first gold medal at this year’s Comrades where he finished ninth overall in 5 hours 39 minutes will lead runners through the half marathon in an estimated time of an hour and 40 minutes.

Sipho Ngxongo has three silver medals from five Comrades finishes and is a frequent podium finisher at local races. He will help runners break the two hour barrier in the half marathon.

In the 10km challenge, Grace de Oliveira, seven time gold medalist (1999–2008) won the first South African award in Comrades, represented SA at world half marathon championships and will be making a comeback from appendicitis. She hopes to help runners finish in just under 55 minutes.

Kerry Koen has run even Comrades with three gold medals including a fifth place in the 2012 down run. She is coming back from injury and will help runners to break the 60 minutes mark in the 10km.

With all your favourite runners on the road, get your running shoes and head to the Cyril Geoghegan Cycle Stadium on the corner of NMR Avenue and Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble Road) for a get Sunday morning run.
