Excitement mounts for Molweni run

Avoid disappointment and register now for the Molweni Trail Run, which will take place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May.

THE excitement is building up towards the inaugural Molweni Trail Run which will take place at the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May.

All event partners and service providers gathered recently to offer their insight and experience to ensure the success of the event. Topics from security and safety, to environmental management and the route were considered and discussed. Event director, Graham Daniel, said, “We are blessed to have such a positive, enthusiastic team of partners who want to make this a truly memorable event. It’s very motivational to see our team put all their efforts into the event. The energy is tangible and the excitement is something very special.”

The marketing manager for Salomon, Jackie Moore, opened by saying, “We have been waiting for a KZN event of this nature to come along and we believe that the Molweni Trail Run will become the premier trail run in the greater Durban area, hence our involvement.” Salomon partners with multiple trail events around the country.

There is a major commitment and connection with the various communities that the race route covers. There is a partnership with the Kloof Conservancy, which will assist and support projects which are related to the race. One of these is the Molweni River Community Park, along the banks of the Molweni River, connecting the Reserve with the Umgeni River. The trails to be constructed through the park will form part of the run itself. Pupils from various local schools will also assist at water points and cheer on the athletes as they complete the 32km journey.

“Emergency medical care is a major consideration for the event and the team from RescueTech will be on hand to ensure immediate attention to any incidents during the event and his team, who have an excellent working knowledge of the Reserve. They have planned accordingly to cover all possibilities,” added Daniel.

The Mini-Molweni for Kids will also take place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May.
