Local swimmers excel abroad

Berea and Glenwood swimmers returned home with 13 medals they won at the championships in Dublin.

LOCAL swimmers from the Action Swim Academy have done their themselves proud after returning home after participating in the Irish Age Group and Open National Championships in Dublin, Ireland.

The swimmers were invited to take part in the international swimming tournament and were on tour for 10 days at the end of July.

“Such international experience is invaluable and I am proud to say all the swimmers dealt with everything exceptionally well and took on the competition without a worry. All the swimmers had amazing results and have returned to South Africa tougher and with more confidence,” said head cCoach of the McLeod Swimming High Performance Centre.

The whole team swam their best times and qualified for at least one final. “We returned home with a total of 13 medals between the eight swimmers – nine gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

All the training by the team is done at the Aquatic Centre at Durban Girls’ High School in Glenwood.

The team will be competing at the SA short course nationals in the coming week.

Charlise Oberholzer 13-14 Age Group: 1 Gold, 1 Bronze, 2 x 4th placing, 8 finals,

Josh Walters 16-17 Age Group: 3 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze 1 x 4th, 8 finals

Kevin Bargate 14-15 Age Group: 4 Gold, 1 silver, 7 finals

Lindsay McLeod Open: 1 Gold, 3 x 4th, 6 Finals

Travis Misdorp 14-15 Age Group: 1 Final

Tristan Long 16-17 Age Group: 2 Finals

Tyler Gentle 14-15 Age Group: 1 Final

Juan du Plooy 14-15 Age Group: 1 Final
