Introduce biometrics on campus

DUT management can see that students are serious about their safety and protection.

EDITOR – I have always questioned why the DUT institution does not introduce card scanning machines and biometrics at all campuses and residences given the rate at which crime is at, it would make students’ lives a whole lot easier and safer.

Does the institution really have its student’s best interests at heart? The answer lies within their actions and frankly I disagree. It baffles me that Excellent security is still roaming around campus even after they have killed one of our own early this year.

Why is it that whenever students have a plea management always ignores them until they resort to protests and violence even though sometimes their cries will fall on deaf ears. There has never been any large coverage of any DUT incidents since the coverage of the student that died at the beginning of the year, whereas big institutions like UCT always get wide coverage which is saddening. We are grateful for the work that journalists do by covering these stories and to media houses that publish them.

I think it’s a good thing that the university has been shut down so that management can see that students are serious about their safety and protection.
