Help needed for outreach project

A resident is seeking help with an outreach project at Westridge Tennis Stadium where she aims to improve children’s reading ability.

EDITOR – I will be starting an outreach project at the Westridge Tennis Stadium to improve children’s reading ability. This will be run from a permanent container on the site. We are very fortunate to have had this donated. There will be a team of volunteers assisting me.

The volunteers will consist of a team of retired teachers and hopefully student teachers to assist with the reading. Together with a team of retired nurses we aim to provide some health and life skill education. My aim is also to provide a sandwich, fruit and milk to the children. There will be other helpers.

Initially we will do this every Tuesday and Thursday from 2-4pm. Presently on site there are children attending an outreach tennis program and other children playing football. This project will enhance the after school activities to a community that has very little. I believe that keeping children off the streets and giving them positive influences can only prepare them better for the future.

However for this project to progress to the next phase, I am appealing for assistance.

1) Concrete blocks to support containers and elevate off the ground.

2) Electrical supplies to access a power supply. The actual lights have already been donated.

3) Paint to make the outside appealing to children as well as paint for the inside.

4) Shelving for books with brackets and sundries.

5) Paving as the children will be reading outside.

I have no budget and have started this from scratch. I believe it has the potential to grow into something amazing with Gods guidance. Therefore I will need all the help I can get. You may contact me on 0823960001 or fionacgilbert@gmail.com for further details
