Poor response, eThekwini Municipality

A reader feels the municipality is skirting the issue of recent power outages in Glenwood.

EDITOR – What a pathetic corporate type response from the eThekwini Municipality on the question of the recent electricity outages in Glenwood.

They have the nerve to ask for reference numbers yet when one phones the electricity department, the recorded message tells us “We are aware of the outages in XYZ” so they neatly skirt the issue and like almost all government departments do their utmost to avoid taking responsibility.

I terminated an electricity account during November 2016 and received written confirmation on 18 November2016 that the service would be suspended on 2 December 2016, finalisation within eight weeks and the refund of my deposit within another six weeks.

Imagine my surprise on 3 February when I received an account for R52 000 and a clear note that the meter was “not read”!

I would hope that no sensible person would be mad enough to sign a debit order for their electricity account. It would be a nightmare trying to recover the monies taken.

The faster we can get some competent people running our municipality the better our stress levels and bank accounts will be.
