Digging up Cromwell Road trenches again makes no sense

"It beggars belief that there was no planning around this work."

EDITOR – At the end of November 2016 residents of Cromwell Road in Glenwood were subjected to contactors using jackhammers at 10pm, digging trenches in the pavements for telephone lines. The supervisor justified this cacophony by saying they had to meet a deadline from MTN.

Within the following two weeks the trenches were filled and cemented over. Now inexplicably more contractors have returned and dug up the exact same trenches – fortunately this time during the day.

It beggars belief that there was no planning around this work or have I not realised that this is a form of job creation – at huge expense, hopefully not to ratepayers.

Perhaps our councillor Ms Tembe could speak to the relevant people for an answer for this disruption and desecration of what was a perfectly good pavement.
