A corruption-free city: Nothing but a fallacy

The DA says when it comes down to taking real action against the culprits who steal the people’s money, the ANC does not have the guts to fire their own comrades.

EDITOR – This formed part of a speech delivered to the Speaker.

The fact that 219 cases of fraud and corruption have been reported for the month of August this year is an indication of the levels of corruption that have permeated the administration of this municipality.

That only 45 of these 219 cases were resolved and seven people dismissed is yet another indication of how serious this city administration takes fraud and corruption.

One would have expected that the ANC would have learned their lessons from the Manase Report, but clearly that report was merely a training manual for the crooks.

And let's not forget the inaugural speech in which the Mayor’s hollow words were clearly meant as a public relations exercise.

Let me quote her words: “Anyone who transgresses good business principles with the city, be it a member of the executive, an ordinary councilor, any member of our staff or private companies trading with the city, must rest assured that we will come down on them with the full force of the law. We will continue to drive a corruption-free city.”

It is now becoming blatantly obvious that these words were just an election speech, because when it comes down to taking real action against the culprits who steal the people’s money, the ANC does not have the guts to fire their own comrades.
