Bylaws not enforced in Florida Road

A resident living in Florida Road feels the municipality needs to act to close down establishments breaking bylaws in the road.

EDITOR – We live in Holden Avenue between Florida and Montpelier Roads.

On Fridays and Saturdays, the parties conducted at club Absolut in Florida Road carry on until 4am. An excess number of patrons park in Holden Avenue, still drinking what was bought and playing the music in their vehicles extremely loud, urinating all over. This unacceptable behaviour also result in the patrons leaving their broken bottles and glasses behind when they eventually depart.

Can anyone please explain why a club can trade, in a residential area, with the excessive noise from their premises? Does the Liquor Board issue licenses to clubs without any restrictions?

Calling Metro Police is of no consequence as they do not react to any complaints being lodged. UIP in the area has no mandate or authority to act on our complaints. What are Metro Police doing about the drunken driving that occurs in and around Florida Road?

We cannot rent apartments out as the tenants do not wish to be subjected to the aforesaid. Resulting in loss of income to us.

Is there any legal body that could assist with this problem? It would not appear so.

A positive reaction from the authorities would sincerely be welcomed
