Excellent service from KZN healthcare

A reader thanks KZN health care services for their swift response which kept her sister and infant nephew alive.

EDITOR – I would like to commend the excellent service that we have received from the Department of Health Durban services, the staff from EMRS and King George V Hospital.

In the early morning of the 29 February, my pregnant sister was experiencing serious complications. We had called the emergency ambulance services and an ambulance was dispatched within 20 minutes.

The paramedics at the scene had to then call for further back up as they needed senior support. The second team arrived within 15 minutes to assist my sister. The staff that attended to her worked very hard to keep my sister alive. The EMRS staff called ahead to King George V Hospital and requested that a doctor be waiting for my sister as she needed to be operated on.

When my sister arrived at the hospital, the doctor and the operating theatre were already prepped for her operation. There was no waiting period. The high care unit at the King George kept a constant watch over my sister. The NICU unit was very attentive to my nephew. My sister is alive today due to the emergency staff that responded quickly and worked so efficiently to get my sister to be in a stable condition.

We are so grateful and thankful to the emergency staff and the staff at King George V hospital that assisted my sister.
