New cellphone mast for Carrington Heights

A Carrington Heights resident is concerned about a proposed cellphone mast to be erected on Mountain Rise Road and hopes the community will object to its development.

EDITOR – In the last week a special consent notice went up on the corner of Mountain Rise and Pitcairn Roads advising an application had been made to erect a 15m high cellphone mast at 10 Mountain Rise.

The proposed site is within 200m of the Carrington Heights Primary School, is in a purely residential area, is immediately adjacent to a bus/taxi stop and is surrounded by other residential homes. The erection of a 15m high cellphone mask poses unknown health risks to the residents and school kids of the area and will be a major eyesore and reduce the visual amenity of the area.

Despite the notice only having been up for a few days it seems that the contractors are already moving in and have dug a number of proving slots in the pavement from John Geekie Road to Nicolai Crescent and down Mountain Rise, few of which are properly barricaded and already pose a hazard to pedestrians.

We urge everyone in Carrington Heights to object to this development.

Objections can be made in writing via registered or certified post or by hand to the “Head: Development Planning, Environment and Management,

Development Planning, Environment and Management Unit, P.O Box 680, 4000” and to “BSO International, PO Box 1314, Kloof, 3610”
