Shame on you, Durban!

No enforcement at the Durban beachfront this weekend resulted in utter chaos, says DA PR councillor.

EDITOR – The heading in a daily newspaper recently, “City plans R40,000.00 fines for noise, litter and urinating in public,” should have netted a tidy sum over this weekend, however there was no sign of any enforcement.

On speaking to Metro Police about the buses at Boscombe Terrace, I was told that they were not granted a request for overtime or extra personnel. Shame on you Durban City Council. The entire Boscombe Place was filled with large buses. The noise, litter, urinating, and unruly behaviour was part of our weekend experience from Friday through to Sunday.

There was not a Metro person in sight. There were also no toilets, so naturally the urination and defecation was anywhere the mood caught you. The excuse that we were caught unawares holds no weight either as this is a usual fiasco for this time of the year.

Durban City Council, you had better get your act, or should I say enforcement, together, as we are still holding out for Blue Flag Beaches as well as the Commonwealth Games. What a wonderful sight for visitors. We are fortunate that no persons were injured or killed as the children simply ran all over the place.
