Parking lot con man was so convincing

A resident said the man driving a Kia Soul, and is asking people for petrol, is very convincing.

EDITOR – I read the article 'Don't fall for parking lot con man' in the Friday's edition of Berea Mail and wish to add to this.

Last Thursday late morning I visited the Engen quick shop in Windermere Road and parked one parking away from this Kia Soul which was white with a red hood and had a NT registration.

As I was approaching my vehicle, the driver of this Kia called me over and asked if I could oblige and assist him with some diesel as he needed to go to Empangeni and only had fuel for 3km.

He was however quite embarrassed as he showed me his book of life and his pay slip. I asked why he did not have a bank card or cash and he said he had left them at home and had been to ask a friend at the Windermere Centre, only to find his friend no longer worked there.

He dept apologising for approaching me and said if I helped him with diesel he would meet me the following day to return my R100 at Windermere Centre.

Everything he said seemed to be quite legitimate and I felt sorry for him. The fact that he agreed to refund me my R100, my mind said to reach out to him.

On conclusion, I realised that he would not meet me the following day, yet he seemed so honourable and kept apologising for asking me for assistance.

He was so sincere, just goes to show how convincing he was. So beware of this man in the Kia Soul.
