Truck drivers need to be competent

A resident agrees that educating truck drivers is going to be a task.

EDITOR – I am in complete agreement with Bobby Lamont's views on the apparent proposal to educate truck drivers.

Surely, before being granted a heavy duty licence, the drivers should be competent and knowledgeable in the handling thereof?

The Metro, instead of creating more paperwork etc, should be seen as a policing force on our roads, in the suburbs and doing their job. The only time I see Metro police vehicles are in Hunt Road clustered outside the Spar, parked on yellow lines!

Never are robot outages manned by officers to direct the traffic and the inevetible danger and chaos that ensues. Why are articulated vehicles even on suburban roads in residential neighbourhoods? Because they can be, no policing, no dedication, no care – our roads are carnage.

Patrol our streets and police our roads. Get out of your cars and out of the Spar food section, do your jobs would be a possible solution to our dangerous suburbs.

And that goes for SAPS too, the amount of police vehicles I see at the local shopping centres – the occupants carrying shopping bags and strolling around at ease, is disgraceful.
