iTrump is cleaning up inner city

The council has lost the opportunity to bring about significant changes that could have put Durban on a par with Cape Town, says reader.

EDITOR – Janet Morgan complains about the degradation of Durban (Council not on the side of ratepayers, 12 September).

In response thereto I must mention that it is incorrect to state that the council is doing nothing to uplift Durban. Most people in Durban have heard about the work conducted by iTrump in the inner city. This work involves inter alia the upgrade of ‘bad’ buildings and sorting out slum landlords. I have heard, however, that iTrump has lost key staff over the last five years and this is a serious concern.

Why is the council not strengthening iTrump at this crucial time when we need enforcement of the by-laws? In this respect the council has lost an unique opportunity to really bring about significant changes that could have put Durban on a par with Cape Town. The results are plain to see – Cape Town’s CBD is a sought after investment node and Durban’s CBD has lost its shine – in fact many companies have dis-invested!
