Danger on the road

A reader raises his concerns.

EDITOR

Last week I was once again disturbed by the crunching of gears and screeming rev’s outside my home. On investigating I found, once again , that it was ‘Mzo’ s driving school. Now I know that I don’t own the road I live in but surely with a church at the bottom of the intersection, a pre-primary school, a school sports field and a municipal swimming pool on the road, one would think that this particular road is absolutely not suited for driving instruction. I have on several occassions approached the instructors in these vehicles to explain this to them only to be ridiculed or abused and for them to continue regardless. I have witnessed several minor accidents, forunately not with vehicles or pedestrians, rather with trees and pavements but it is just a matter of time before something more serious happens.

Imagine my suprise when I looked over the wall and saw the instuctor fast asleep in the passenger seat whilst the learner battled to get the truck into gear and in motion. I ran inside and grabbed my point and shoot camera to snap a shot. It didn’t turn out too well and so I went back to get my bigger camera.

The truck was still stuck there and I managed to snap a couple of shots before the student warned the instructor who then quickly sat up and they managed to get the truck moving.

They didn’t return.

Isn’t it time this kind of thing was rooted out and those responsible fined and/or put out of business.

A diffarent set of rules in the new south africa? Everyone knows you buy your license anyway right?
