Community, police zoom in on rampant crime in Albert Park
Albert Park residents and police beef up efforts to solidify crime-fighting efforts amid escalating criminal activities in the area. One favoured solution in a meeting was to establish a broader structure of Community Policing Forum (CPF), with an aim of nipping rampant crime at its source.
THE SAPS Durban Central management, CPF leadership, eThekwini Municipality, Safer Cities representatives and community members gathered at Diakonia Music School on Saturday to address issues of crime in Albert Park and surrounding areas.
According to SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Zanele Khomo, the meeting was aimed at engaging the community. A total of 70 community members raised questions and sought answers from the SAPS regarding criminal activities spiraling out of control in the area.
Khomo indicated that the Broad Sector Sub-forum CPF was dissolved, therefore establishment of a new one was imminent.

Fifteen undocumented foreign nationals were arrested and over 100 homeless people were taken in during an integrated operation in October 2024. The eThekwini District police management, together with the Office of the Premier, Correctional Services, Metro Police and the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, raided the Albert Park area which had become a hotspot for crime.
As a way forward, a follow-up meeting will be convened where a plan of action to clean Albert Park will be presented.
