WEATHER WARNING: Heavy rainfall predicted for KZN and eThekwini

The SA weather service anticipated that rainfall is expected to persist from noon to 23:00 today, Monday, June 3.

ETHEKWINI Municipality is urging the public to take note of a weather warning issued by the South African Weather Services (SAWS) for today, Monday, June 3.

In their statement, the City said the forecast model indicates persistent heavy rainfall over KwaZulu-Natal, including the eThekwini region.

“This level 4 warning may result in flooding of roads and settlements, damage to infrastructure and destruction of mud-based houses. Higher rain intensities are expected along the coastal regions of eThekwini.

“Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution and maintain a safe following distance while driving on wet roads. Forecasts show a high probability of moderate to high rainfall between midday today and 23:00 tonight,” said the municipality.

The City advises residents to exercise caution, to stay indoors if possible, and avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary.

They also warned residents to not attempt to cross rivers and streams. In case of an emergency, the public can contact the City’s Disaster Management Centre at 031 361 0000.
