THE Umbilo Congregational Church is inviting community members to their flea market which they host on the first and last Saturday of every month.

The church forms part of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa. Each church is a self-supporting church and, as such, either has the ability to call a full-time minister or not, depending on the finances of the particular church.

According to Yvonne Bowes from Umbilo Congregational Church, the flea market helps the church raise funds and builds healthy community interactions.

“To sell goods and hire a table, it costs R40, and the flea market runs from 06:30 to 11:00. We sell hamburgers, boerewors rolls and steak rolls. Small and large breakfasts are available inside with crumpets and other breakfast foods. We sell cupcakes and shortbread, and tea and coffee are available as well as cappuccino,” said Bowes.

Bowes says all are welcome. “Community members are always encouraged to participate and be part of the church, as well, if they wish to.”
