Musgrave blood centre calls for donors this Easter

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is encouraging people to donate blood over the long weekend at the Musgrave Blood Donor Clinic located at 29 Musgrave Road.

THEY want your blood! The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is encouraging the public to donate blood at the Musgrave Donor Clinic.

“Blood stocks are low, and with a long weekend imminent, blood donors are invited to donate their valuable blood ahead of Easter to ensure that blood stocks are healthy at a time when they will be in high demand,” said Kirsten Govender, clinic supervisor at Musgrave Blood Bank.

To donate blood, donors must weigh at least 50kg or more, be between 16 and 65 years of age, in good health and lead a sexually safe lifestyle.

Musgrave Donor Centre is at 29 Musgrave Road, next to the Berea Congregational Church, Pardy Gardens Road. Working hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:30 to 14:30, Tuesday 10:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 09:00 to 14:00.

“Understanding that donors may have some time on their hands while donating and may be looking for a distraction, Denis Hurley Centre Street Lit booksellers will be on hand to sell a pre-read book to donors so they have something to read while they donate their blood, and something to enjoy reading over the Easter weekend. For donors in Musgrave Blood Bank, pop into see David Jones at Berea Centre; Eric Badise at Durban Botanic Gardens; Alvin Dube and Donel Tanbeni at the KZNSA Gallery or Bulelo Sigabi at Davenport Square to pick up something to read en route,” said Illa Thompson, Denis Hurley Centre Street Lit facilitator.
