BAT Centre celebrates love

On February 17, friends and patrons of the BAT Centre dressed up and showed up as they came in their numbers to celebrate the month of love.

THE BAT Centre, in collaboration with the Unlearn to Learn non-profit organisation, celebrated the month of love in the true fashion of what the BAT Centre is all about – by hosting a love-themed extravaganza where couples and friends came together to celebrate love through music, painting and art.

According to Ncumisa Mcithwa, facilitator of the centre, “the event was meant to revive the space and create a grand opening for multiple events that the BAT Centre will implement in the year. It was based on the Valentine’s theme but in a broader perspective where the concept of love was interpreted through art activities – activities that created a way for the participants to communicate their emotions through art and celebrate the love they have as a family and couple, friends and colleagues”.

There were prizes to be won by the participants who took part in the variety of activities, such as music performances, kiss-and-tell dialogue, paint and sip, poetry, an open-mic karaoke session and dancing.

The event accommodated all ages and included a space for children to enjoy fun activities and express their love for each other.

The BAT Centre is an urban-based community art centre, which is a venue and facility for skills training, promotion and exposure of disadvantaged and emerging artists.

The focus of the centre is local arts, culture, crafts and entertainment that reflect the Zulu, Indian and Western heritage of KwaZulu-Natal.
