Glenwood baby home relocates amid security concerns

Glenwood's Feed the Babies Fund non-profit organisation has relocated due to safety concerns in their previous area of residence.

FEED the Babies Fund, one of Glenwood’s oldest non-profit organisations, has relocated to a safer location due to crime in their area.

“Our offices were broken into, and a number of electronics were stolen. They lifted our gates off the rails, and within minutes, they were in and out with whatever they could put their hands on. When the security company responded, it was already too late as they were gone. After that incident, and many others of a similar nature in the area, we considered moving to a safer location because our office only has two staff members, so we thought we may as well downsize to make the space safer and easier to maintain,” said Sandy Davis, marketing and fundraising manager.

Feed the Babies Fund offers assistance to early development centres around KwaZulu-Natal, where they help feed the children while also assisting the centres to build infrastructure that meets social development standards in order for them to be able to qualify for governmental incentives. They have also expanded to assisting with providing mattresses, educational books and toys to the early development centres that have been identified by their field workers and which now form part of their beneficiaries.

The organisation also trains the workers of early development centres to ensure that the children there receive the necessary education and stimulation. “The move is not the end of our organisation. Although we had made Glenwood our home, it was also important for us to put safety first because as a non-profit organisation, it is hard for us to replace valuables that we lose through crime, and even though a case was opened for the break-in, the suspects were never apprehended,” added Davis.
