City set to host another Open Streets project this December

The Open Streets concept encourages the free and safe movement of pedestrians experiencing the space in new and exciting way.

FOLLOWING the success of the ‘Open Streets Florida Road’ pilot on March 26 this year, the eThekwini Municipality will be hosting an event again this December.

According to a statement released by the City, fashion, food, music, cycling, a fun walk/run and more will be the order of the day at the upcoming ‘Open Streets Walnut Road’ to be held on Sunday, December 10.

“The Open Streets concept encourages the free and safe movement of people, enabling them to experience the space in new and exciting ways – car-free,” said the municipality in their statement.

The statement went on to explain that the one-day programme will see a 1km portion of Walnut Road in the Durban CBD closed off to vehicles, converting the street into a walkable space for families to enjoy.

“Entries are limited to 500 cyclists and 500 participants in the fun run/walk. The first 200 entrants will receive a free T-shirt,” said the municipality.
