Sharks rugby team set to tackle gender-based violence

For every tackle the Hollywoodbets Sharks make over the next three matches, they plan to raise funds for non-profit organisations that assist women and children who have been victims of gender-based violence.

THE Hollywoodbets Sharks are lending their voice to the 16 Days of Activism to raise much-needed funds and awareness to tackle gender-based violence (GBV).

Through their campaign ‘Tackling Violence Together’, the team said they hoped to speak to the problem affecting women and children.

From November 25 to December 10, for every tackle the Hollywoodbets Sharks make over the three matches played during this period, money will be raised through a ‘tackle pledge’ and donated to non-profit organisations that assist women and children who have been victims of gender-based violence.

“The recent statistics around gender-based violence in our country and province are extremely alarming. Now, more than ever, we need to act against gender-based violence. When we come together as a collective, magic happens, and that united spirit shone brightly through the civil unrest and floods that we experienced in the last two years,” explained Sharks CEO Dr Eduard Coetzee.

“Today, we call on Sharks fans, both nationally and internationally, to take a stand with us in fighting GBV. Whether it be through spreading this message, donating funds or donating items that can assist those affected by GBV, any involvement and support is welcomed. We ask that you join us and make a ‘tackle pledge’ as we stand against the abuse of women and children. Our Tackle Pledge tiers start as low as R10 per tackle,” he said.
