St Martin’s brings Christmas carols to Glenwood
St Martin's Diocesan Children's Home is appealing to the public for donations for their little ones to have a special Christmas.
St MARTIN’S Diocesan Children’s Home in Glenwood is not only a safe haven for children who have been exposed to varying degrees of abuse but also the closest they have come to having a stable home and a solid education.
“Our home is registered with the Department of Social Development. As such, we do receive some incentives, but it is never enough to keep up the smooth running of our home,” said Poodhan.

The children rely on donations for food, clothes, toiletries, cleaning supplies, school uniforms and stationery. The children receive three meals a day and two snacks.
Due to having more children under the age of twelve, St Martin’s is always in need of mealie meal for porridge, peanut butter and margarine, milk, sugar and fruits and vegetables.
The home goes through 180 bars of soap a month, 382 rolls of toilet paper and kilos of washing powder.
“We are always in need of food donations and toiletries,” said Mandy Muller, who is the hospitality manager who oversees the kitchen and cleaning staff at the home.
The children are always in need of donations of school shoes, reams of paper, stationery and school bags.
When not at school, the children of St Martin’s are at home playing in their jungle gym facility or at the chapel where they all gather and pray. Due to the building being old, the chapel needs to be renovated and is in need of furniture.
