GLENWOOD residents have noticed serious road damage and a sewage leak located at the corner of Helen Joseph Road and Lena Arhens Road.
The issue has been causing a major obstruction to road users on Helen Joseph Road, and this week, Berea Mail investigated whether the eThekwini Municipality was aware of this issue that for weeks has been causing raw sewage to run down Helen Joseph Road, which road users and pedestrians were forced to drive and walk through.

According to the eThekwini Municipality, work has begun to address the issue. “The spillage on this road was caused by a broken pipe which was repaired last week. We are currently waiting for the road reinstatement which will be conducted next week, and then the road will be opened,” said eThekwini Municipality spokesperson Gugu Sisilana.
Sisilana explained that sewage leaks and blockages are caused by the presence of alien objects in the system. “Our sewage system is not built to handle objects such as paper, plastic or any other foreign materials that do not dissolve or soften.

These blockages remain a challenge we are experiencing daily in our communities because people dispose of foreign objects in the system. We are appealing to all our residents to desist from doing this and to use the correct materials for sanitation purposes.”
