Drug operations ongoing in KwaZulu-Natal

POLICE operations to root out drug trafficking in the province are proceeding in earnest. This follows an operation that was conducted on Thursday afternoon in a lodge situated on Dr Pixley kaSeme Street.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the team entered the lodge and a 53-year-old man was found attempting to dispose of a black bag that was in his possession.

“Inside the bag, police found 2.07kg of methcathinone, 55g of crystal meth, 25g of cocaine powder and 20g of rock cocaine. The estimated value of the recovered drugs is R475 000,” said Gwala.

Gwala said another 27-year-old was found at the same premises in possession of 31.1g of methcathinone.

“The recovered drugs are valued at R6 000. Both suspects are appearing before the Durban Magistrate’s Court for possession and dealing in drugs,” said Gwala.
