Umbilo Library officially re-opens

On Wednesday, November 1, the eThekwini Municipality officially re-opened Umbilo Library which has previously been closed for three years.

TODAY, the eThekwini Municipality officially re-opened Umbilo Library’s new premises located in Bulwer Park, 202 Helen Joseph Road, Glenwood.

The library, which has been closed for three years, will open its services to the public in the permanent space owned by the municipality. According to a statement released by the municipality, the library will be open from 09:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, then on Saturday from 08:30 to 12:30, and on Sundays, the library is closed.

“In addition to the books, the library is equipped with an internet café, Wi-Fi, study space and other resources,” said the municipality in their statement.

The official re-opening of the library was also used to raise awareness on disabilities as November is National Disability Rights Awareness Month.

“The Open-Air School, a school for children with disabilities, were in attendance to explore the library and its services. On Friday, November 3, the library will commemorate World Children’s Day where children will learn more about library services and resources in promotion of quality education,” said the City.

“The facility will play a crucial role in the community by serving the needs of residents and that of schools in neighbouring areas. It provides various programmes that are educational and cultural and are also focused on community socio-economic development and youth development,” said the City in their statement.
