Driver shot at and killed in Umbilo

This afternoon, a driver and his vehicle were the target of a shooting that caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle, and after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, he was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

JUST a day after two people were shot and killed in the Durban CBD, a driver and his vehicle were targeted this afternoon, and after veering off the road and sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, the driver died in his vehicle.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, just after 15:00 today, ALS Paramedics received numerous calls of a shooting incident that had occurred on Umbilo Road just before King Edward Hospital in the Umbilo area of Durban.

“The caller stated that multiple gunshots had been fired at a vehicle before the vehicle had left the roadway and collided with a tree. Paramedics arrived on scene and found the SAPS in attendance and the entire roadway blocked. Paramedics were shown to the driver of the vehicle believed to be in his fifties and found that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds,” said Jamieson.

Unfortunately, there was nothing more paramedics could do for him, and he was declared deceased at the scene.

“At this stage, the events leading up to the shooting are unknown, however, SAPS are on scene and will be investigating,” concluded Jamieson.
