NGOs in the arts, culture and heritage sectors are invited to apply before Thursday, August 31 for the Grant-In-Aid funding.

APPLICATIONS are open for Grant-In-Aid Funding which has been set aside for non-government organisations (NGOs) in the arts, culture and heritage sectors.

The City’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit has set aside funding for NGOs in this sector to sustain their programmes. The closing date for applications is Thursday, August 31.

In a statement, the City said Grant-In-Aid funding aims to alleviate financial strain in organisations working to promote the development of arts, culture and heritage, especially in rural areas.

Chairperson of the Community Services Committee Councillor Zama Sokhabase said that with urban populations expanding, conserving cultural heritage is evolving and the ideology of culture and heritage is phasing out.

“Because of such challenges, the municipality has developed strategies to preserve historical assets which are still significant in the modern age,” she said.

She said this initiative is aligned with the municipality’s Integrated Development Plan to create economic opportunities for the development and promotion of arts, culture and heritage programmes in townships and rural areas.
