Placemaking in Glenwood – join the cause

The workshop offers an avenue to bring together everyone with a vested interest in the future of Glenwood, Umbilo, Glenmore and Berea.

IN a bid to uplift the area, several stakeholders will host the Glenwood and Surrounds Place-Making Workshop on Saturday, August 12 from 09:00 until 12:00. The initiative, which is the first of it’s kind, is led by the Glenwood Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP), the Bulwer Business Association (BSA), Bioregional SA, and the Lilitha Environment and Development Foundation.

Dominic Naidoo chairperson of the Lilitha Environment and Development Foundation, said the workshop aims to define a shared vision for the future development of Glenwood and its surrounding areas.

“Our goal is to develop a unified place-based vision for Glenwood and surrounding communities. By bringing together the various stakeholders, we aim to convert the many challenges we face as a community into opportunities and leverage these to create a more inclusive and sustainable institution which caters to the needs of all who live and work within our neighbourhoods,” he said.

The workshop aims to unite those with a vested interest in the future of Glenwood, Umbilo, Glenmore and Berea.

“The focus extends beyond the traditional boundaries to consider the broader functional aspects of the area and foster a sense of shared purpose and unity. Place-making, a process by which we transform our environment into a place where people desire to live, work, and play, will be central to the workshop,” explained Naidoo.

Stakeholders are inviting the general public, community-based organisations, local businesses, ward and PR councillors, relevant municipal departments, and educational institutions with an interest in place-making to attend the workshop.

“We invite all members of the community to take part in shaping the future of Glenwood and its surroundings, leveraging existing strengths, fostering unity, and addressing challenges. Together, we hope to transform these areas into even more liveable, cohesive, and vibrant communities,” said Naidoo.
