Florida Road UIP installs basketball hoop at local park

A legislated and representative body, the UIP has motivated, lobbied and worked with the eThekwini Municipality to collectively manage public space in Florida Road in order to grow and sustain property values, ensure business prosperity and create a high quality of life for all.

AS part of the Florida Road Urban Improvement Precinct’s Special Projects for 2023, the organisation has installed a new basketball hoop and pole in Gordon Road Park.

According to the Florida Road UIP Precinct manager Andrew Fynn, the organisation wanted to install the basketball hoop mostly for the youth of the community. “Our aim is to give purpose to young people and students from the area so they don’t leave the area to find spaces to play basketball – we wanted to create a recreational space within the community. Florida Road is already well-known as a tourist node, but we also want to make it a space where young people can enjoy themselves in a positive way. If we lose our youngsters, what’s the point? We need to keep young people motivated and purposeful.”
