Local youth jet off to Los Angeles to represent SA

At the South African Championships, over the past two years, the young performers have won 119 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.

LOCAL youth from the GO!Durban Academy are jetting off to Los Angeles to represent South Africa at the World Championships of the Performing Arts.

The GO!Durban Academy unearths and nurtures young people from the City’s most vulnerable communities, providing them with tools that foster confident, authentic, creative and environmentally aware future leaders.

eThekwini mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda sent his heartfelt wishes to the young stars ahead of their journey.

“We wish you a safe journey and urge you to continue to raise the nation’s flag high. You embody the spirit of South Africa, shining as ambassadors, not just for eThekwini but the entire country,” said Kaunda.

Kaunda urged the community to rally together to support the young performers in their quest to showcase South Africa’s talent.

The performers’ success at the South African Championships set the stage for their overseas trip. Over the past two years, they have brought home an impressive 119 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.

The young stars come from different schools, including Mqhawe High School, JG Zuma High School, Northmead Secondary School, Crystal Point Secondary and Mvaba High School.

The local stars set off on July 24 to compete against 70 countries.
