Marine biological research association hosts educational marine-life initiative
Some 140 children of Zuzukhule Primary School enjoyed an educational experience and a tour of uShaka Sea World due to the kind sponsorship of logistics company CMA-CGM.
ON Tuesday, July 18, the South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR) staff at the uShaka Sea World Education Centre hosted 140 children from Zuzukhule Primary School in Inanda to teach them about the diverse marine ecosystems that exist in the ocean.
According to a statement released on the SAAMBR Facebook page, the learners’ visit was made possible through a very kind sponsorship from CMA-CGM, a logistics company that believes in doing good and investing in education and sustainability.

“We had previously identified Zulukhule Primary School as one of the schools in need of not only sponsored entrance to uShaka Sea World but also for transport costs. When the CMA-CGM, through their sustainability ambassador, Kierran Horn, offered to cover all costs related to the visit on Mandela Day, we were all absolutely overjoyed,” said the statement.
The learners of Zuzukhule Primary School engaged in an educational programme and were treated to a tour of uShaka’s aquarium. “The Grade Six and Seven learners were treated to a curriculum-based lesson which introduced them to a variety of marine ecosystems before being divided into small groups and taken on a tour of the aquarium. The aquarium is perfectly designed to showcase these different ecosystems in a fun and meaningful way,” said SAAMBR.

“I was so happy when I was able to finally phone the principal from Zulukhule Primary School and share the good news that we had sponsorship for their learners’ visit to uShaka Sea World on Mandela Day,” said SAAMBR Schools booking manager Emma Chiliza.
“Inspiring learners is what SAAMBR staff at the uShaka Sea World Education Centre do best. This, of course, has happened at least 300 days per year for the past 30 years already,” SAAMBR concluded in their statement.
