Man critical after Umbilo shooting

Paramedics arrived on the scene to find a man lying in the roadway.

A MAN, believed to be an e-hailing taxi driver, was left in a critical condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to his head on Walton Place in Umbilo just after 16:00 on Wednesday, July 19.

Spokesperson for Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics Medical Services Garrith Jamieson said they rushed to the scene after receiving numerous calls for assistance.

They arrived on the scene to find SAPS already in attendance.

“One person, a man believed to be in his forties, was found lying on the roadway with a gunshot wound to his head. The man was stabilised on the scene before being rushed through to a nearby Durban hospital for the urgent treatment that he required,” said Jamieson.

“It is believed he is an e-hailing taxi driver, however, at this stage the events leading up to the incident are unknown,” said Jamieson.

He added that SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further. Umbilo SAPS was not available for comment at the time this article was published.
