Women robbed at knifepoint and gunpoint – six arrested

After a pursuit, police apprehended the suspects and recovered a dagger and a 9mm short pistol.

POLICE arrested six suspects armed with dangerous weapons on Saturday, July 1 at about 21:00. This after the armed gang robbed three women at knife- and gunpoint and allegedly assaulted them near Moses Mabida Stadium.

Spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS Captain Muzi Maphumulo said members of the Durban field unit were patrolling in the area when they spotted six men running towards the bridge that leads from the stadium toward Suncoast Casino.

“Members became suspicious and pursued the suspects without losing sight of them. At the same time, members heard women screaming out for police [to help them],” said Maphumulo.
