Manhunt for rape suspects, SAPS appeal for information

SAPS are on a manhunt for three men suspected to be involved in rape cases in central Durban.

POLICE are appealing to anyone with information to come forward as they investigate a case of rape following an incident on Maud Mfusi Street (St George’s Street), in central Durban, on May 5 at about 15:40.

SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Zanele Khomo said detectives from the Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit are searching for two suspects.

It is alleged that a woman (27) was walking along St George’s Street to meet her friend when she was accosted at knifepoint by two men.

“They pulled her towards Alexandra Street, and the two of them raped her by the railway line under the bridge. They were speaking an unknown language,” said Khomo.

“We appeal to anyone who might have information regarding the men in the picture to contact the investigating officer, Constable Khuzwayo,” said Khomo.

In a separate incident, SAPS are investigating a rape case following an incident on Russel Street on February 18 at 21:30. It is alleged that a woman, aged 42, was walking along Russell Street when a man driving a maroon vehicle stopped on the side of the road and offered her a lift.

“On their way, the driver asked to pass by his house to grab some things. They proceeded inside the room, and while talking, the man pushed her onto his bed and raped her,” said Khomo.

SAPS appeals to anyone who may have information on this case to contact investigating officer Detective Constable Dludla on 061 375 4876 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
