For those who watched the Coronation of King Charles III, one of the highlights was the beautiful music being played throughout the service. To pay tribute and honour to some of the magnificent music associated with Coronations and similar events over the generations, the British Culture and Heritage Association is hosting an afternoon Coronation Celebration Concert featuring the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. This will be held at the DLI Hall on Sunday, May 21 at 14:00.

The Coronation Celebration Concert features the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and the Durban Symphonic Choir under the baton of Russell Scott. Special guests include Kyran Taylor, who plays the title role in Young Performer’s Project’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat coming to the Playhouse in July, and Raymond Perrier, director of the Denis Hurley Centre, who will be reading carefully chosen texts to accompany the music.

The programme will feature some rousing traditional British musical classics, such as Handel’s Music from the Royal Fireworks – the Hallelujah Chorus and Zadock the Priest; Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance, and Vaughan-Williams’ English Folk Song Suite, interspersed with iconic British and more contemporary favourites, such as numbers from the musicals and the Beatles.

Wear your blue, white and red! Seating is unreserved, there will be a cash bar and tickets are R180 through Quicket.
