Durban hosts national softball champs

Among the KZN Men's Softball stars who competed in the National Provincial Championships a is Glenwood resident Dylan Ebrahim who has played on the side since his teenage years.

THE National Provincial Softball Championships took place at Hoy Park Sports Grounds from March 21–25, where KwaZulu-Natal teams took to the field to compete against teams from across the country.

The KZN Ladies’ team, which includes nine teenagers, placed 5th – a welcome outcome for the team whose youngest member was 15-year-old Shannon Olivier.

Coach Nicolle Williams praised the team, highlighting the young talent that is paving the way for the future of the team.

The KZN Men’s team ended top of the log at the end of the round robin through a three-way tie between KZN, Gauteng and Western Cape.

KZN Men’s Softball stars who competed in the National Provincial Championships at Hoy Park leave for the inaugural U23 Men’s Softball World Cup on April 11. Part of the KZN Men’s team was Glenwood resident Dylan Ebrahim who has played in the KZN Men’s Senior side since his teenage years, along with Reece Nyland from Pinetown.

Head coach Paul Whitfield spotted their talents early on in their careers and drafted them into his side.

The upcoming tournament is to be played at Nafaldo Cargnel Stadium in Parana, Argentina, from April 15–23.
