Police call for false allegations about AKA’s murder suspects to stop

Although the police understand that the public is anxious to hear case developments of the murders of Kiernan ’AKA’ Forbes and Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, they are calling upon the media and everyone else to refrain from making reports that have the potential of jeopardising ongoing investigations.

THE South African Police Service released a statement noting their concern about the ongoing reports about Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes’ and Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane’s murder suspect/s and how these allegations may mislead their investigation.

According to SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the police unconfirmed the reports, which have been doing the rounds, about the arrest of an ever-changing number of suspects, and say they are misleading the public.

“Although the police understand that the matter has attracted media attention and that the public waits with bated breath for any developments, they are calling upon the media and everyone else to refrain from making reports that have the potential of jeopardising ongoing investigations. Such reports also have the potential of putting the lives of the people purported to have been arrested at risk, as well as endangering the lives of individuals who are portrayed as police officers in photographs and videos that have been doing the rounds on certain websites and social media platforms,” said Netshiunda.

Netshiunda says police are appealing for space and time to investigate the matter without undue pressure and unwarranted scrutiny from armchair investigators, analysts and faceless so-called sources that are claiming to be closer to the investigations.

“Police are duty-bound to keep the victims’ families abreast about any developments in the investigations. These irresponsible reports rub salt into the fresh wounds of the family members who have put their faith in law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to book and for justice to prevail. Investigations into the murders are ongoing, and the police will keep the public updated if and when there is any breakthrough or development worth communicating about,” concluded Netshiunda.
