Durban Central SAPS recover 13 TVs suspected to be stolen

One suspect was arrested and three suspects are at large after 13 TV sets were recovered at a Durban flat.

A SUSPECT was arrested when he was caught red-handed with 13 TV sets that are suspected to be stolen property.

According to Captain Muzi Maphumulo, spokesperson for Durban Central SAPS, Durban Central Crime Prevention Members were patrolling along Maud Mfusi Street (St George Street) when they received a tip-off.

“Members received information in connection with four people who were seen off-loading items from a bakkie at [a block of flats] on Wills Road in Durban. The information given was that the suspects went to Flat 21 in the block,” said Maphumulo.

The members reacted to the information and immediately proceeded to the place mentioned, where they found 13 TV sets. There were two men present at the flat when police arrived, and a third man was later found hiding under a mattress in the room, but he allegedly did not reside at the flat.

“The members interrogated the suspect who was hiding under the bed, and he later admitted that he had committed a burglary on Victoria Street with three other suspects who had escaped to KwaMashu with other items,” said Maphumulo.

Police arrested the suspect, aged 22, for possession of stolen property. He was detained at Durban Central SAPS.

“The suspect will be linked with a business burglary that occurred in the Durban area where the same items were reportedly stolen,” concluded Maphumulo.

He added that three of the suspects are still at large.

“The owners of the flat were not arrested. They exposed [the suspect] to the police as he was under the bed. They informed the police that [the suspect] and his other friends, who had left for KwaMashu, were actually the ones who brought the TV sets to their flat,” explained Maphumulo.

The Durban Central SAPS are on the hunt for the three remaining suspects who were involved in the burglary.
