Glenwood UIP calls for security consultant

The Glenwood Urban Improvement Precinct is calling for proposals from a qualified and experienced security consultant to advise them on security within the precinct.

THE Glenwood Urban Improvement Precinct is calling for the help of a security consultant, to help beef up security in the area.

The Glenwood UIP Annual General Meeting was held on February 15, at the Berea Bowling Club.
Newly elected chairperson for the Glenwood UIP, David Roberts, said that the Glenwood UIP is taking the concerns from its members about security seriously, and this will be a key focus for 2023.

To that end, Roberts explained that they are calling for proposals from a qualified and experienced security consultant to advise them on security within the precinct.

“The primary focus of the consultancy project is to fully assess the security needs of the GUIP and to provide a security plan for the precinct against an approved operational plan and budget. Some of this research has already been done and will be provided to interested consultants during the quoting phase. Recommendations are expected to include the deployment of cameras and other security infrastructure, deployment of human resources, and communication with other security groupings, including Metro Police and SAPS, etc. The security consultant will also assist the GUIP with the development of tender documents for the appointment of service provider(s) to provide the infrastructure and services as identified in the plan. A key component of the project will be consultation with members and residents, and the GUIP will be sharing these engagements on their website and Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GlenwoodUIP,” said Roberts.

Roberts said that in order to quote for this project, potential bidders need the necessary qualification and experience in developing security plans for areas similar to that of the GUIP. “Where relevant, you must have the appropriate registration certificate(s), and be able to provide two letters of reference for similar work undertaken. Please visit our website at https://glenwooduip.co.za/ to download the Terms of Reference and the research document. All applications must be received by March 31,” said Roberts.

The Glenwood Urban Improvement Precinct (GUIP) is a commercially funded, non-profit entity covering the area bounded by Lena Ahrens, Alan Paton, Umbilo and King Dinuzulu roads. The GUIP was established in 2019 as a municipal entity under Section 12 of the Municipal Structures Act. One of the GUIP’s mandates is to provide a measure of security in the precinct, among other services, which include cleaning, greening and place-making.

While it serves its members by focusing on the areas of public spaces adjacent to their businesses, the services provided are of benefit to all residents within the precinct. All work done by the GUIP is within an approved operational plan and budget, which is overseen by an elected board.
