Questioning inequality through dance – at the Stable Theatre

This contemporary dance show aims to discuss power dynamics and inequality in society – be it extremes of wealth or gender norms.

THE Stable Theatre will play host to a contemporary dance show on Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4.

Choreographed and directed by Philile Khethiwe Njikija, In the Last Hour – Sold is a contemporary dance and poetry project set to explore the effects of inequality, division, power and unity in gender.

Andisa Mpisi, stage manager and publicist for In the Last Hour – Sold, said the show centres around a discussion about the power dynamics between the rich and the poor and male and female.

“This piece of art points out the fuel that drives the division between the powerful and the powerless, and how we got to the daily reality of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. This is a callout of the division enforced by different beliefs, religions, races, tribes and genders as a means to ensure that the ‘superior’ continues gaining more power while keeping the poor poorer,” said Mpisi.

The 60-minute show is performed by a cast of four performers.

“This show promises to raise awareness of the silent yet deafening fight between men and women, and the systems condoning this division,” said Mpisi.
